Oxford Thanksgiving with Friends

Published by Don under Corrine, Don, Friends, House

Thanksgiving may not feel like its here yet, but it is. Well atleast for us.  Every year before the 4th Thursday of November (traditionally Thanksgiving day).  Our local group of friends usually gets together and celebrates thanksgiving.  We have pretty much what you would expect to have in a normal thanksgiving.  Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, etc, this year was no different.  Instead of doing our turkey this year in an oven, like we have for year, one of our friends mentioned that her dad had a deep fryer for turkeys if we wanted to try it.  So after very little persuading, we decided to give it a try.

Here are a few pictures of the setup.  Big fryer, propane tank, a place for Don to hide and stay in the sun but out of the wind.

After cooking a 20lb turkey for 60minutes we took it out of the fryer, and this was the result. IMGP0791.JPGIMGP0792.JPG Not too bad if I do say so myself, since this was our first attempt at frying a turkey.  While I sat out in the cold waiting to make sure the turkey didn’t blowup or anything like that, Corrine was inside making soup and making the tables look pretty.  Here are a few pictures of the house.  IMGP0785.JPGIMGP0789.JPGAnd it wouldn’t be a cold day at our place with out a fire.  IMGP0787.JPG

After everyone arrived ate a good meal we went down by the fire to play games, and just have a good time.  Here some pictures of 22 people in our basement around fireplace. IMGP0794.JPGIMGP0795.JPG

Around the house

Published by Don under Corrine, Don, Friends, Gardening, House

We have been doing quite a bit around the house lately.  Been doing some landscaping, planting some trees.  (Rob and Annie had a big maple tree in their front yard, that has produced a few baby maple trees, so we are trying to figure out where to plant those.

We have officially planted vegetables in our garden.

I took these 2 pictures this morning after I watered the garden, The one on the right is looking east and the one on the left is looking west.  The green poles in the middle of the garden, you see in the right pictures are so that i can put up a trellis or something so we can from beans and peas up there.

We are going to try and do the square foot garden, idea, so you’ll see squares.  Looking at the left picture you can see Tomatoes in the first 2 squares.  Then you will see the Zuccini in the next square, and then the peas & beans, the square just to the left of the peas and beans you can’t see them, but there is corn in that square.  Then next week, we will plant more tomatoes and probably more corn, and probably something else we find around.

Any one have ideas on anything else we should plant?

Indoor Weekend Project

Published by Don under Corrine, House

The weather went from beautiful to down right cold in just a few days so all the plans we had to work and play ourside were foiled, so we played inside.  Saturday night, Corrine decided that the area over the fireplace looked dark.

Lights Off So we spent Saturday night, part of Sunday afternoon, and then Monday after work installing some track lighting.  Lights OnIt was a lot of fun, the work was a little hard, but fun too..  Anyway, here is what the same mantle area looked after we had got the lights installed. I would agree that it looks a little better then before.  Wouldn’t you agree?

Happy New Year

Published by Don under Corrine, Don, Family, Friends, House

It’s been 6 months since this site was updated, but we’ve been a bit busy, planning a vacation, getting ready for the holidays, and just enjoying life. We had a great holiday season. We had friends and family at the house for Christmas, and that was a great time. And we just had a great New Year’s eve party which is always fun, there were like 13-15 folks there, not too many but enough to have fun.

Incase you didn’t notice, I got a little bored yesterday, and decided to change the theme of the site, we like it.. Incase you ask, I have no idea where the picture is from, it just came with the theme, when Corrine and I get done with it, there should hopefully be a picture up there of us on a beach, we’ll see how well that that works.

One reason I wanted to change the theme was to get the photo on the sidebar, so I hope you enjoy them, and if you want to see our whole photo gallery, check out that link as well.

Anyway, that is all from around here, hope you all are doing well, and if you read this at all, let me know how things are doing with you as well.
