Foulk Family Reunion and Bob Evans

Published by Don under Family, Trips

Corrine and I went to Ripley, West Virginia to the Parchment Valley Conference Center for the 2008 Foulk Family Reunion.  We went out there for the weekend, and Corrine meet a lot of family she never met before and I met some I hadn’t even met before, we had a great time.  We went on a wagon ride around the area, played games, had a bon fire, and just had a great time catching up with family.  Incase you don’t know my maternal grandmother was a Foulk, so this was a reunion that brought together all of her brother’s and sisters and all of their kids.  So I covers 5 generations of people.  So it was a lot of fun.  Here are a few pictures of the weekend.  Hopefully Foulks, will add some more to the Foulkfamily.org website, so check it out to see more.

On our way to the Reunion we saw a sign for Rio Grande, OH, and then a sign for the Bob Evans Farm, that is the location of the first Bob Evans.  So on Sunday afternoon on our return from the reunion, we decided to stop by and check out the farm, so we walked through the house where Bob Evans lived, and walked through where the first Bob Evans Restaurant was at.  So it was a fun weekend. Here’s a picture of Corrine infront of the mailbox and home of Bob Evans.

Camping

Published by Don under Friends, Trips

Last weekend Corrine and I went camping with Rob and Annie, it was a lot of fun.  We went to Clifty Falls State Park near Madison, IN.  We had a great time, we spent Friday exploring the area, and then spent Saturday, hicking and just playing outside.

Here’s a picture Corrine took of our campsite
IMGP0677.JPG

Originally there was to be a railroad through the area where this park is, but as they were digging a tunnel (that we got to hike through) the company ran out of money, so the tunnel stayed, but the railroad is no longer there, and it became a park.

IMGP0684.JPG After some hiking we stopped for lunch at the bottom of the falls you can see here

IMGP0686.JPG (look really closely and you can see water) We then proceeded to climb our way out of this area, and then we went to the nature center where we got to pretend that we were turtles.

Gardening

Published by Don under Gardening

We have been spending quite a bit of time out in the yard lately working on the garden.  If you remember I have had a few posts about the garden, even a few pictures now and again.  Well we were out side last night after one rain storm before another one hit, and Corrine staked up some Tomatoes and we did some work on the beans and peas, and even did some work with the zucchini, so we think the garden might be coming along.  Here are a few pics I took with my cell phone, so I apologize for the quality.

Check out the difference of the Tomatoes and zucchini.

Here is a picture from last month. The first square is where the tomatoes that are in the next picture are located, and the 3rd square back is where the Zucchini’s live.

Fourth of July Weekend

Published by Don under Family, Friends

We had a great weekend.  Some of Corrine’s high school and college classmates (batchmates) who now live in either Chicago or Indianapolis came down for the long weekend(Ken, Joy, Barri & Juan), along with May and Shao so Hotel de Kidd was quite the happening place.

Everyone (In addition to the out of town guests, John, Dennis, Rob, Annie, Steve, Laura & my mom ) arrived Friday, had a great time, it was a little cool to play in the pool, so we instead had a big bon fire in the back yard, which was quite cool.  I can’t say I would have ever guessed we would have built a bon fire on the fourth of July and we weren’t that hot (Unless we got closer to the fire).  We then went to the pool deck and watched the Oxford Fireworks.

Then on Saturday, we spent the day around the house playing Wii, and playing in the pool.  We never left the house, we thought about leaving, but just never got around to it.  (It was our mini vacation..)

They Sunday, we went to Church, either OBF or St. Mary’s depending on the preference.  And then we gave the OBF crowd a tour of Oxford and Miami, then went up to lunch, at our favorite local place Phan Shin.  Then it was back to the house, for relaxing and then the out of town guests left.

Since John just bought a house on Monday, there was some work to do, so we went over to see how things were going, and since it looked like they weren’t going to stop for dinner, we invited them, (John, Steve and Laura) over for dinner.  So we played in the pool some and then had some grilled pork chops.  Busy weekend, but a lot of fun.
